South Africa's loved gospel powerhouse Zaza Mokhethi is a skilled, versatile and an anointed singer. Her stage presence is always accompanied by the tangible strong presence of the Trinity God. We caught up with her via WhatsApp and asked a few questions. This is what went down.
Do you mind sharing your age with us?
Mmmmm I will I am 38 :)
How many albums do you have under your belt?
Under Zahza holdings Pty Ltd, BLOWING THE HORN OF CHRONICLE is my first live dvd & cd. But, previously I realised 3 albums under other labels. So it's 4 albums in all.
When did you realize that music was your path?
I realise that music was my path from a young age. My Grandfather used to pastor a church, and I used to sing at home as well.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
The music that I create naturally is Traditional Gospel but I do venture into other styles. I feel traditional is relevant since I'm an African.
Do you still have musical influences?
Oh yes I still do. I listen to different genres all the time and that helps me in creating my own sound.
BLOWING THE HORN OF CHRONICLE, what inspired the album title?
I was inspired by the Book of Chronicles (in the Holy bible) that tell stories about the interaction between God and man and causing His people to win and victor against enemies (e.g. Walls of Jerico). Musicians were always placed in the for front each time there was a battle with an enemy.
What’s next for you?
Whats next for me; personally I've just realised the DVD (BLOWING THE HORN OF CHRONICLE). And under Zahza holdings I will be signing other artists soon. My passion for mentoring young girls into the music industry still continues. And making sure that the company grows regardless of the challenges.
